I've always believed that if you're gonna remake an old movie, remake one that didn't work all that well. That way, you don't have to compete with a classic, and you can still capitalize on the fact that people might remember the first one with some fondness even if they don't think of the old movie as being particularly good.

That's why Ocean's Eleven was just the right movie to remake; folks look fondly back on the Rat Pack, but if you've actually seen the original movie, you know it's kinda dull.

Same deal for me and Tron. I love the idea of the original movie, and there are some sequences that stand out in my mind, and the arcade game was about the only video game I was ever any good at, but Tron itself is kind of a snooze. So I'm sort of psyched about Tron Legacy, since I figure it will work off the cool concepts of the original flick while souping it up and making it more fun and exciting.

And that theory is certainly borne out by the trailer (HD trailer!). (Daft Punk score! Garrett Hedlund's butt in a bodysuit! Newly-minted Oscar winner Jeff Bridges!) Check it out.
